BI can’t evolve towards KM as the two have different scope and goals, however there should be continuous feedback between the two areas, which in many organizations is not the case. KM must assure that the knowledge is disseminated within the organization and the various actors have the knowledge they need to operate, devise tactics and strategies, respectively understand the business and make decisions. Mental models seem to be completely missing from the KM and BI and they are the basis on which organizations need to build. Otherwise, they build castles in the air and wonder why the edifices don’t work.
