The Data Management Body of Knowledge considers Data Governance as part of Data Management and the framework built makes sense to me (at least from what I read).

Data Governance is an extension of Corporate Governance and from here may assumptions and requirements need to be addressed. Just starting a Data Governance initiative without anchoring it in Corporate Governance and Data Management is planning for failure.

Data Governance requires the proper data culture, and the leadership is responsible for it as an organization’s culture is created, managed, nourished, and destroyed through leadership.

Data Governance isn’t dead, is just poorly defined, misunderstood and implemented.
